SPRING CLEANSING - REVITALIZE YOUR HEALTH WITH DIET AND HERBS

Herbal Spring Cleanse

Spring cleaning isn’t just for our homes! It’s also time to clean our bodies with a Spring Detox!

WHY A SPRING CLEANSE?

Nature is awakening from its long winter sleep and its time of inactivity, and so are we. It’s time to celebrate the rebirth of Spring and, after the heaviness of winter (and excesses of the holiday period), it’s an excellent time to detoxify our bodies and rejuvenate our health. It not only helps us shake off the cobwebs but helps clean our ‘pipes’ so our body systems can work better.

BENEFITS OF A SPRING CLEANSE

Feeling fatigued, headachy, foggy, having blue moods, skin issues, digestive problems, and low immune function can all be indications that you could benefit from a detox. Doing a seasonal detox helps reset and revitalize your body by helping your organs to recover and regenerate and promotes health and healing on all levels - body, mind, and emotions. You’ll feel lighter, more energized, and ready for this great new season!

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Detoxes help you eliminate toxins in the body and help with weight management. Did you know your body holds onto weight to protect you from toxins in your system? That is one reason why it’s important to do a gentle detox when you are working on losing weight, so your body can let go of toxins and excess pounds without getting you sick while doing it.

With a Spring Detox, we work to clear and rejuvenate the liver, kidneys, lymphatic, and digestive systems, which work round the clock as your body’s major detox organs. This should be a gentle process that lifts your health and energy. You might be surprised how easy it is to do, and Cedar Bear is here with great herbal remedies that help the process be even easier. First though, here are some important tips to help your Spring Cleaning work for you:

DETOX DIET – EAT YOUR WAY TO BETTER HEALTH!

Clean eating is very important to our health, and part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Eating fresh, nutrient-dense foods that are easy to digest is never more important than in the Spring to help clear out months’ worth of micro-junk from our bodies.

Look for seasonal fruits and vegetables that support detoxification – primarily leafy greens, berries, and citrus fruits. Get them organic whenever possible – that’s also part of clean eating.

Reduce or eliminate processed foods, sugar, and unhealthy fats. And include plenty of water and herbal teas to support the detoxification process.

WELLNESS TIP: Got a blender? Blend your way through your detox. Use it for yummy smoothies with greens, berries, and fruits.

HYDRATE & FLUSH TOXINS

Staying hydrated is key to supporting your body’s natural detoxification processes and helps create a gentle toxin flush. Hydration is important for:

  • Kidney function, as the kidneys have a vital role in filtering waste products and toxins from the blood and out of the body through the urine.
  • Liver function, which is the body’s primary detoxification organ and processes and eliminates toxins from the bloodstream.
  • Digestive system, for proper digestive function and keeping your bowels moving toxins out of the body.
  • Lymphatic system, which has to have proper lymphatic fluid balance to move lymph throughout the body, an important part of detoxification and immune function.

Ironically, staying hydrated helps reduce fluid retention, which causes bloating and swelling. Keeping hydrated helps the body maintain proper fluid balance throughout the body. So don’t avoid drinking water and herbal teas if you have excess fluids. Increase your intake!

HEALTH TIPS: Add lemon juice to your water to enhance its action. Cut down on caffeine and eliminate alcohol during a detox.

WATER – Drink plenty of clean water throughout the day. You can’t go wrong if you follow the 8x8 Rule: The rule of thumb is to drink 8 8 oz glasses of water/day. (Sweetened drinks and carbonated soda pops don’t count! Avoid them, especially during a detox.)

HERBAL TEA – There are wonderful herbs that help with detoxification (and can be part of your 8x8 water intake). Dandelion root tea, green tea, and ginger tea are great examples.

JUICES – Drink juices made with whole fruits and/or vegetables for fiber and full nutrition. (Juices like clear apple juice and grape juice without the actual fruits raise blood sugar levels.)

HERBS FOR DETOXING

Boost Your Detox with Herbs. There are herbs that wonderfully support kidney, liver, digestive, and lymphatic system cleansing and help build your health at the same time, such as milk thistle, turmeric, burdock, and dandelion. Keep reading to learn more about them.

HOW TO ADD HERBS TO YOUR CLEANSE

Put herbs in smoothies, soups, and herbal teas. (While the word ‘tea’ is supposed to be reserved for tea made from the Camellia sinensis plant, almost everyone calls non-caffeinated herbal infusions or decoctions herbal teas.) Drink herbal teas several times each day, and use Cedar Bear herbs, which are like concentrated herbal teas, taste great, and are easy to use and alcohol-free.

SUPPORT YOUR DIGESTIVE HEALTH

A healthy digestive system is part of good detoxification. As we said already, eat whole, unprocessed foods, organically grown when possible. You want to lower your toxic load, which includes clean food sources.

Probiotics – your gut needs probiotics to help keep your digestive system in balance and to support the gut flora. Probiotic rich foods include yogurt, kefir, and fermented vegetables (sauerkraut, kimchi, pickles, miso, kombucha drinks).

HEALTH TIP: Make sure yogurt is high quality, unsweetened (add your own fruit), and states it has “live and active cultures” and/or contain probiotic strains such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium lactis, or Lactobacillus bulgaricus.

DIGESTIVE SUPPORTING HERBS – Peppermint, fennel and ginger all help reduce bloating and improve digestion.

MINDFULNESS FOR A HOLISTIC DETOX

Include mindfulness practices daily such as meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises. Even a walk outside can be a mindful activity. Mindful living, which reduces stress, is gained through developing present moment awareness and focused attention and can help your overall well-being.

Stress Management – Stress increases stress-related hormone levels, which are designed to suppress digestive and immune processes to support fight-or-flight responses. Long-term, chronic stress increases oxidative action in our body, which breaks down our health. (Part of why antioxidants are so important.) Work to reduce stress and chronic stress problems in your life. Spending time in nature, exercising, and regular breathing exercises support your overall wellbeing.
